In their first NAB edition of Macreak Studio, hosts Mark Spencer and Steve Martin dive into DaVinci Resolve 20, fresh off its release, straight from Las Vegas. Recorded early Sunday morning, this tutorial highlights what they consider the coolest new features, with a special focus on time-saving AI tools. Here’s a rundown of the standout updates they explore:

  1. Enhanced Keyframe Control
Resolve 20 introduces a Keyframe Tray and a full Keyframe Graph Editor directly in the Edit page—no need to jump into Fusion. Mark demonstrates adjusting an animated cropping effect, tweaking timing and easing with intuitive spline controls reminiscent of After Effects or Motion. The floating, resizable palette offers fine-tuned control over parameters like position, making animation adjustments a breeze.
  2. Vertical Video Workflow
With vertical video now a client staple, Resolve 20 adds a larger vertical timeline viewer. Steve shows how a single button expands the view, paired with the Inspector for precise transform adjustments—perfect for framing subjects in social media formats.
  3. Animated Subtitles with AI
Under the new AI Tools menu, Resolve auto-generates subtitles from audio in multiple languages, then offers animated subtitle styles like “Lollipop” or “Word Highlight.” Applying effects to an entire subtitle track at once, as Steve demonstrates, simplifies customization for Instagram-ready captions.
  4. AI Music Editing
The AI Music Editor trims stock music to fit your timeline effortlessly. Steve drags a clip, uses the Live Trim feature, and watches Resolve analyze and cut it cleanly—complete with fade-outs—saving tedious manual adjustments.
  5. Beat Detection for Music
Right-click any audio clip, and Resolve 20’s AI identifies beat markers. Mark snaps edits to these markers, streamlining cuts to match music rhythms without frame-by-frame guesswork.
  6. Improved Voiceover Tool
A revamped voiceover feature, now enhanced on the Cut page, includes a teleprompter-style script loader. Steve records a take for a travel vlog, with the script scrolling in sync—a huge upgrade from Fairlight’s clunky old process.
  7. AI Silence Removal
In Fairlight, the Remove Silence tool cuts out noise between dialogue, adding fades to avoid pops. Mark applies it to a voiceover, praising the time saved over manual keyframing.
  8. AI Audio Assistant
For quick mixes, the AI Audio Assistant classifies and normalizes dialogue, music, and effects. Steve tests it on a chaotic timeline, noting it ducks music under dialogue effectively—getting mixes 80-90% done with minimal tweaking.
  9. Smart Multicam Switching
Designed for podcast-style edits, this AI feature auto-cuts between angles based on audio and lip movement. Mark plays a pre-analyzed clip of a conversation, impressed by its natural timing and wide-angle options.

Filmed amidst NAB excitement, Mark and Steve focus on editing enhancements here, teasing future dives into the Color and Fusion pages. They wrap up encouraging viewers to subscribe and comment with their thoughts on Resolve 20’s game-changing tools.

Best online educational resources for FCPX, Motion 5, and other AV Production tools out there. I keep referring to tutorials I subscribed to years ago, my library is easily accessible on their website all the time. They even respond to urgent questions IN PERSON! Right away. Their YouTube channel is also a wealth of information about updates, new tools and general tips and tricks for software and hardware. They are an indispensable part of my career as FCPX editor.

Bang for the buck, Ripple tutorials for Da Vinci Resolve, and all its modules, is the most complete and thorough online program available! Each lesson is thoughtfully constructed in the proper sequence as a part of the whole, or as a stand alone piece. They never feel rushed, and the presenters are articulate. I couldn’t be happier with their products!

Over the past few years, as I focused on FCPX for handling my personal videos, I discovered Ripple Training. I tried out their free courses and (tra-la) discovered I learnt a few techniques. Unlike more traditional "bookish" courses that tend to explain the user interface, menus and options to a degree that leaves you thumped and unwilling to go further (skim-skip-skim), Ripple training is refreshingly good and paced well. Mark and Steve's training style is practical and down-to-earth. So, the outcome is I purchased a lot of Ripple training courses and train from them at my own pace, many times repeating sections that were tough to digest in the first go. Excellent training, Steve and Mark - way to go!!!

Ripple Training: The Best Resource for Learning Final Cut Pro If you're serious about taking your YouTube channel to a professional level, Ripple Training is the best investment you can make for learning Final Cut Pro (FCP). Before this course, I found FCP confusing and overwhelming, but Ripple Training broke everything down step by step, making it easy to follow and understand. This course provided the building blocks I needed to confidently edit my videos, and I constantly refer back to the training as I continue to improve. While mastering FCP takes time, I can already tell that in about three months, I'll be far more proficient thanks to this course. Hands down, this was the best training I've taken for FCP, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to level up their editing skills. If you're feeling lost with Final Cut Pro, Ripple Training is the way to go!

I have been buying Ripple Training products for over a decade to learn about FCP, DaVinci Resolve and many other training packages. Their explanation and bite sized chapters make it easy to follow and understand. Downloadable media is available also so you can follow along with the instructor at the same time and in your own time. They are one of the best resources for learning film production software, techniques, tips and tricks. I highly recommend Ripple Training for anyone wanting to fully learn all there is about all they offer in their training programs.

You should NEVER doubt this is the right place for a consolidated approach to not only learning about Final Cut Pro but to get very well thought-out plugins for favorable prices and clever implementation. As a retired satellite communications engineer always dabbling in photography I always wondered about how to make videos and being an all Apple person wanted to especially learn Final Cut. These guys are very well experienced and devoted to making their Mark (pun intended) in this industry. There has never been a time I couldn't ask them questions and get an almost immediate response. I am no expert here but have gained an enormous amount of appreciation for what goes into making premium video content. Like I said, their consolidated approach is a great single-source for a Final Cut goto. It has enabled me to make nice personal video content to show to all my family and friends. I have no intent of starting another career, only being able to enjoy this retirement hobby.
